The Hail Count 2004
The Hail Count

In the 2004 marching band season, the Purdue "All-American" Marching Band played "Hail Purdue"
447
times.

The Hail Count was started by Jimmy Scott in the 2003 season, and reached 509. The Hail Count 2004 began at the end of band camp and ended on January 1, 2005 after Purdue's appearance in the Sun Bowl the day before.

A playing of Hail Purdue means that all of the AAMB is playing, meaning that pep band (or roving pep band), sectional, and volleyball band performances don't count, but band practice and game day playings count, even though the entire band might not be present. Also, the piece originally intended to be played must be played (and conducted) in its entirety, meaning all the way through to the very last note starting from the very first note. Acceptable versions of Hail Purdue include "Play, Sing, Play" (PSP), "Play, Sing, Play, Play" (PSPP, used for the Illinois show), "Intro/Chorus" (IC), "Play Play" (PP), "Chorus/Tag", "Hail Demo" (Counted as Chorus/Tag, and used in the Children's Concert on 11/2/2004), and "Chorus Only." Verions that don't count towards The Hail Count include "Quickie", "Hail Fire", and "Hail Purdue Locomotive."
